Zihuatanejo Fly Fishing Guide Challenge

During the Baja on the Fly “Jacks or Better” Fly Fishing event, there will be an opportunity for the selected guides to compete among themselves. The Guide Challenge will consist of competitions to demonstrate each participant’s skill as a saltwater fly-fishing guide.

Any Tournament participant may nominate a guide to be considered for both the Tournament and Guide Challenge by submitting an information form to include a complete resume of the Guide and their qualifications. Eligible guides will be selected by the “Jacks or Better” judges and their decision is final. Upon selection, the Guide will be notified by certified mail and will have 15 days to respond to the invitation. Once the Guide has accepted the invitation, a complete information packet will be provided.

Each Guide will be responsible for their application fee ($50), transportation to Zihuatanejo and meals. Upon arrival in Zihuatanejo, transfers, lodging, admission to Tournament parties, dinners will be provided.

The Guide Challenge will consist of:

1.   Distance casting to be held on the beach in front of the host hotel.

2.   Accuracy casting to be held in front of the host hotel.

3.      Fly tying skill.

4.      Speed knot tying.

5.    Fly Design

             6.   Three days of Guiding to demonstrate both client skills and saltwater skills. Each client will provide a scoring sheet to the judges.     

The winner will receive a $1,000 cash prize.
